Oracle Fixed Assets Management project at Central Depository Company of Pakistan Ltd has been successfully completed. CDC sought Inbox’s Systems Integration Services in February 2008 for full integration of Oracle Fixed Asset Management module with its existing Oracle Financials General Ledger and Payables modules.
Inbox was ordained the task of integrating Oracle Fixed Asset Management Module with the existing system, and thus enable CDC to better manage the assets it has been entrusted with.
Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited (CDC) has been incorporated to operate as a central securities depository on behalf of the financial services industry so as to contribute to the country’s ability to support an effective capital market system.
The project entailed Business Process Re-engineering of all the processes pertaining to asset management.
“It was not easy to change the existing processes related to Asset management as they were maintained in Excel spreadsheets and supported by manual JV in General Ledger” said Mr. Shoaib Ganatra, the head of Solutions Design center here at Inbox.
However, with the cooperation of Mr Hamid Ali Khan and Sheikh Matloob Hussain from the Finance department of CDC, global best practices pertaining to asset management were adopted and made part of the Standard Operating Procedure. The assets are now routed though the Payables module to the Fixed Assets module and the JV is created automatically in the General Ledger.
“This project has enabled increased visibility, transparency and control in our financial systems - from General Ledger to Account Payables to Fixed Assets. Additionally, it has become easier to obtain monthly, quarterly and yearly financial performance reports as well as real-time complete, up-to-the-minute information,” said AGM Finance, Tariq Abdul Aziz.

On August 19th 2007, the imposing multi-storied PNSC building, overlooking Karachi seaport caught fire. The entire building was up in flames, and with it the entire data center of Engro Chemicals Pakistan Limited went up in smoke. What followed was the painful process of business continuity and disaster recovery as Engro team bravely fought to bring their mission-critical processes back on track.
Engro faced the challenge of rehabilitating their workforce at various locations and provide the necessary systems support in order to revive the operations which were ceased for over a month. Engro at that moment selected three locations and provided temporary working space to over 100 employees at these locations.
At this time, Inbox stepped in to lend a helping hand. Project Manager Rishwan Shabbir PMP and Associate Project Manager, Mahvash Athar from Inbox Project Management Office took the lead for timely and swift delivery of required services, workstations, laptops, servers, wireless LAN/WAN, UPS, printers, etc.
The Inbox Assembly Plant which has the capacity to assemble 800 units a day; enabled Inbox to provide its indigenous line of desktops in the shortest possible time. Inbox’s Solution Architect team also worked diligently to propose a robust, reliable solution as per Engro requirements. The proposed solution was based on IBM System Blade Center for running mission critical business applications at Engro Data Center. The proposed system was not just a quick-fix solution but was suggested keeping in mind Engro’s current as well as future requirements. The solution provided by Inbox comprised of hardware including computers, servers and storage; software infrastructure, as well as Project Management Services.
Inbox helped Engro revive and set up its IT Infrastructure, not once but thrice; as they moved from one location to another. Inbox finally helped Engro pull together the back-end as well as end-user IT infrastructure; once they finally shifted to their new office space at Dolmen City in January 2008.
