Inbox Business Technologies has signed an agreement with Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited for implementation of Oracle Data Guard at Engro’s Port Qasim site.
Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited, formerly known as Engro Asahi Polymer & Chemicals Ltd. is a subsidiary of Engro Chemicals Pakistan Limited. The company is the leading PVC manufacturer in Pakistan. Whereas Inbox Business Technologies is an end-to-end technology solution provider focused on diverse industries including Polymer and Chemicals.
To cater to Engro’s requirements, Inbox Business Technologies Pvt. Ltd has proposed an Enterprise wide solution along with the required hardware and infrastructure platform. Oracle Data Guard is a fairly new solution in Pakistan and not many companies are providing it at this point in time. However, Inbox with its expertise in Oracle platform and significant experience of dealing in Disaster Recovery Solutions, was chosen for this project.
Oracle Data Guard is a management, monitoring, and automation software infrastructure that creates, maintains, and monitors one or more standby databases to protect enterprise data from failures, disasters, errors, and corruptions.
Data Guard standby databases can be located at remote disaster recovery sites thousands of miles away from the production data center, or they may be located in the same city, same campus, or even in the same building. If the production database becomes unavailable because of a planned or an unplanned outage, Oracle Data Guard can switch any standby database to the production role, thus minimizing downtime and preventing any data loss.
Inbox’s Disaster Recovery Solutions are not new for Engro Group. Last year, Inbox helped Engro Chemicals recover its systems when its office located at the imposing multi-storied PNSC building, overlooking Karachi seaport had caught fire. The entire building was up in flames, and with it the entire data center of Engro went up in smoke. What followed was the painful process of business continuity and disaster recovery as Engro team bravely fought round the clock to bring their mission-critical processes back on track. At this time, Inbox stepped in to lend a helping hand. Inbox Project Management team took the lead for the timely and swift delivery of required services, workstations, laptops, low-end servers, wireless LAN/WAN, UPS, printers, etc.
Inbox helped Engro revive and re-setup it’s IT Infrastructure, not once but thrice; as they moved from one location to another.
With this implementation of Oracle Data Guard at Engro Polymers and Chemicals, Inbox will be providing a complete Disaster Recovery Solution to the company.

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, on behalf of Long Distance International Operators’ (LDIO) Consortium, signed an agreement with Inbox Business Technologies for expansion of technical facility for monitoring IP-based incoming international telecom traffic. This project is an extension of IP Traffic Monitoring and Mitigation project which was awarded to Inbox Business Technologies by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in 2007. This state-of-the-art project enables PTA to curb the menace of grey telephony.
In September 2007, PTA had embarked on a project to detect, analyze and mitigate grey traffic running on its international internet links. Inbox Business Technologies provided the complete solution based on NARUS Discovery Suite, along with other infrastructure components, on 18 links of various specifications.
The facility went live in May 2008 with immediate success of detecting and mitigating grey traffic. Numerous IPs running grey voice-over-IP were blocked and a few offenders were also apprehended. Since the inception of the project, the number of international links in Pakistan has grown at a rapid pace to about 70, with new ones being added on a frequent basis.
This expansion initiative provides PTA and LDIOs the facility to monitor all links currently present, as well as the forecasted links given by PIE till December 2008. Scalable Methodology for all future links has also been designed. This platform would also be utilized for higher and more detailed level of revenue assurance system for all LDIOs by catering to any asymmetric traffic that may be present on these links.
The consortium includes PTCL, Wateen, Link Direct, World Call, 4B Gentel, Wisecom, Telecard, Telenor, Wi-Tribe, Multinet and Redtone.
