LDI Operators’ Consortium Awards Expansion Project for IP Traffic Monitoring to Inbox Business Technologies
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, on behalf of Long Distance International Operators’ (LDIO) Consortium, signed an agreement with Inbox Business Technologies for expansion of technical facility for monitoring IP-based incoming international telecom traffic. This project is an extension of IP Traffic Monitoring and Mitigation project which was awarded to Inbox Business Technologies by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in 2007. This state-of-the-art project enables PTA to curb the menace of grey telephony.
In September 2007, PTA had embarked on a project to detect, analyze and mitigate grey traffic running on its international internet links. Inbox Business Technologies provided the complete solution based on NARUS Discovery Suite, along with other infrastructure components, on 18 links of various specifications.
The facility went live in May 2008 with immediate success of detecting and mitigating grey traffic. Numerous IPs running grey voice-over-IP were blocked and a few offenders were also apprehended. Since the inception of the project, the number of international links in Pakistan has grown at a rapid pace to about 70, with new ones being added on a frequent basis.
This expansion initiative provides PTA and LDIOs the facility to monitor all links currently present, as well as the forecasted links given by PIE till December 2008. Scalable Methodology for all future links has also been designed. This platform would also be utilized for higher and more detailed level of revenue assurance system for all LDIOs by catering to any asymmetric traffic that may be present on these links.
The consortium includes PTCL, Wateen, Link Direct, World Call, 4B Gentel, Wisecom, Telecard, Telenor, Wi-Tribe, Multinet and Redtone.
